Have questions about joining or participating in NICA New York? Below are answers to some of the most common questions from families and riders. If you’re looking for more detailed information, we encourage you to review the League Handbook, which covers policies, race information, and program expectations.

Students in grades 5–12 are eligible to participate in NICA New York programs.

Start by visiting our Team Map and Coach Email List to find a team near you. You can contact the team coach to receive your NICA Pit Zone invitation.

The NICA Pit Zone is the platform used for all NICA registrations. Once you activate your invitation, you can register and pay for a rider, coach, or team, complete required waivers, and manage your participation details.

Yes! NICA offers a coach licensing program designed to prepare volunteers to support teams and riders. Requirements include training such as First Aid/CPR certification and a NICA On-the-Bike Skills Clinic.

The registration fee is $300. The program season runs from October 1 through June 14.

No. NICA is a challenge-by-choice program. Riders are prepared to participate in races, but racing is not required to be part of a team.

Yes. We encourage student-athletes to participate in other sports. Our main priority is that riders are able to participate safely and with the skills needed to ride and race confidently.

Yes. NICA New York offers scholarships to help families with race fees and other program costs. Please review the scholarship application for more information.

For a safe and enjoyable experience, we recommend riders have:

  • A mountain bike with front suspension

  • 8–9 gears

  • A properly fitted helmet

  • Gloves

  • A water bottle or hydration pack

  • A basic trail repair kit

Your local bike shop can help you find appropriate equipment.

Yes. NICA New York hosts additional opportunities including:

  • A 7-day, 6-night camp at Kingdom Trails in East Burke, Vermont

  • A 2-night overnight GRiT (Girls Ride Together) camp

Yes. NICA New York uploads race results to the rider’s USAC license account.
